Here are all the key updates from December 01, Friday:
To follow up their brilliant AFC Cup victory over Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the week, Odisha FC continued their winning run with a 1-0 success over Jamshedpur FC in the ISL on Friday.
Roy Krishna’s 56th-minute winner gave Odisha their third ISL win in a row, and their fifth in succession in all competitions. They have moved up to third in the ISL table, behind FC Goa and Kerala Blasters, although they have played more games than Mumbai City FC and Mohun Bagan who are below them in the table.
Priyanshu Rajawat continued to be the only Indian singles player standing, reaching the semifinals after straight games win over Indonesian qualifier Alwi Farhan.
There was Indian representation in doubles also remained as veteran Ashwini Ponappa and her partner Tanisha Crasto got the better of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand 21-19, 21-8 at the Syed Modi Super 300 badminton tournament in Lucknow.
Priyanshu, who won the Orleans Masters this year and is ranked 31st in the world, notched a solid 21-16, 21-15 win. He will next play Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu Jen for a place in the final.
The all-Indian women’s doubles was more complicated as seventh seeds Ashwini and Tanisha had to fight back from 7-13 down in the first game against fourth seeds Treesa and Gayatri, seeded fourth, faced tough competition. Which they did, and then went on a run of 12 straight points in the second game to establish firm command of the quarterfinal.
Unfortunately, India suffered a setback on Friday. Facing Germany in their second group match of the tournament, the team lost a close contest 3-4 which could prove costly for their quarterfinal chances.
India began well, scoring twice in the opening quarter thanks to Annu and Ropni Kumari. Germany made a comeback in the second quarter to make it 2-2 but India once again took the lead before the break with Mumtaz Khan netting her team’s third goal.
However, Germany upped their intensity and quickly scored two more goals in the third quarter to take a 4-3 lead. India tried their best in the final quarter but couldn’t change the scoreline.
This is their first defeat in the tournament after they had beaten Canada 12-0 earlier on Friday.
India now will have to beat Belgium to ensure they make it to the quarterfinals. Top two teams from the group will enter the last eight stage with Belgium currently being leaders after two wins from two matches. India and Germany are level on three points each.
Beating Belgium in the final group game will not be an easy task at all for India.

The ISL saw a thrilling 3-3 draw for the second consecutive day, as Bengaluru FC came from two goals down to grab a point against Punjab FC at home – with Neeraj Chopra watching on.
The Syed Modi tournament saw many Indians exit the competition, with 11 women’s singles players all failing to make the quarterfinals, while Priyanshu Rajawat was only one of ten men’s singles players to go through to the quarterfinals.
