Donald Trump worked the fry cooker at a McDonald’s on Sunday — the latest bizarre moment in a campaign that has increasingly become a tour of personal vendettas and aimless grudges despite his aides’ best efforts to keep the former president on track.
Trump, 87, is known for his personal love of the fast food franchise and once treated visiting athletes to a McDonald’s buffet at the White House. Today, he’s set to make a campaign appearance at a McDonald’s franchise location while repeating some baseless claim from social media arguing that Kamala Harris never worked at one (she has said it was one of her first jobs as a young woman).
At the restaurant in Lower Southampton, Pennsylvania, Trump remarked about his opponent compaining about working at a McDonalds when she was much younger — it wasn’t clear what the purpose of the stop was, beyond an effort to troll his opponent (who herself landed a blow about crowd sizes at the September debate which Trump has yet to get over).
Harris, meanwhile, celebrated her 60th birthday on Sunday with a decidedly more conventional campaign appearance at a Black church in Georgia.
This comes after the ex-president was mocked on social media for a strange, rambling anecdote about golfer Arnold Palmer at a Latrobe, Pennsylvania rally on Saturday night.
“He took showers with the other pros,” Trump said of the golfer. “They came out of there they said, ‘Oh my God, that’s unbelievable.’”
“But don’t call them weird,” author Jennifer Taub wrote of Trump’s comment on X, alluding to Kamala Harris’s moniker for the former president and his running mate, JD Vance.
Donald Trump put on an apron, worked the fryer and even spoke to reporters through the drive-thru window of a Lower Southampton, Pennsylvania-area McDonalds on Sunday in what is likely to go down as the strangest campaign stop of the 2024 cycle.
In his remarks to reporters during the campaign stop at various points, he attacked his opponent Kamala Harris for her description of the job as difficult; Harris worked at a McDonalds when she was younger, something the Trump campaign previously tried to claim was fake before pivoting to a staged display of how easy the job supposedly is.

Kamala Harris didn’t take a day off the campaign trail for her 60th birthday on Sunday, and made a morning campaign appearance at New Birth Baptist Church in Georgia.
The gathering was advertised by the 10,000-member megachurch, which hosted Harris in the venue which seats 7,500 on Sunday. It’s part of her effort to moblize the Black church — a core part of African-American life in the deep south — to push her over the top in Georgia, a key swing state won by the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020 as part of their defeat of Donald Trump that year.
During her remarks, churchgoers began singing “Happy Birthday” to Harris, who responded that it was “her great joy” to spend her birthday with members of the Black church.

Just a few months after the Democratic nominee for president was forced out of the race due to broadening concerns about his age and mental faculties, Kamala Harris, his vice president, has turned 60.
Harris’s milestone comes as her campaign is on the final stretch of a bid to put her in the Oval Office. Just a couple weeks remain before Election Day.
The vice president’s age, once an afterthought, is now one of her key advantages as she faces a Republican who would be the oldest to ever serve when he left office in 2029 were he to win another term in the White House.
Messages came in from her current and former running mates as Harris prepared to hit the campaign trail again in the coming days.
“Happy Birthday to my dear friend, partner, and a remarkable leader – Kamala Harris,” wrote President Joe Biden in a short statement posted to Twitter.

“Happy Birthday, @KamalaHarris! Thank you for bringing compassion, decency, and joy to our politics. I’m honored to be in this fight with you, and I couldn’t be prouder to call you my friend,” added Tim Walz.

Donald Trump is set to make a campaign stop at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s on Sunday.
But instead of chowing down on his 2,400-calorie order of choice – two Big Macs, two Fillet-O-Fish, and a chocolate milkshake – the GOP presidential nominee is expected to “work the fry cooker” in a Philadelphia branch.
It all comes after he made a very odd, sexually charged comment about famed golfer Arnold Palmer this weekend.

The former president has been teasing a visit to the Golden Arches for weeks, as Kamala Harris has spoken about her past summer job at the fast food joint
Donald Trump shared a 12-minute anecdote about golfer Arnold Palmer at a Pennsylvania rally, prompting derision on social media after he made an off-color comment.
Trump was speaking in Latrobe, Palmer’s birthplace, on Saturday evening when the 12-minute tangent began. The former president began by praising Palmer’s career and describing his previous conversations with him.“There were a few golfers that you could say may be slightly better, a few, not many,” he said. “But there was nobody that had his magic.”
But the former president’s anecdote quickly devolved as he discussed some intimate details about the golfing icon.
