LAS VEGAS – On Saturday, October 19, UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF) hosted its 14th annual Teddy Bear 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk at Tivoli Village. Over 285 participants gathered in the Piazza area for a family-friendly community event featuring family fun events, fitness, wellness and a one-of-a-kind raffle. The event kicked off with the national anthem presented by Cheyenne High School Junior ROTC followed by opening remarks from storied Las Vegas news anchor Nate Tannenbaum and Health Plan of Nevada Senior Leader Ambassador Dr. Tricia Sellers.
“Since 2005, the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation has been able to award more than 37,000 grants valued at over $75 million to provide financial assistance to families and children with medical needs not covered by their commercial health plans,” said Dr. Sellers. “All proceeds from today’s event will go towards furthering our mission and we are excited to see so many faces out here this morning to support our cause.”
Following the race, runners and walkers were greeted with photo opportunities with Las Vegas Aviators mascot Spruce the Goose along with cosplayers from the Las Vegas Cause Players Alliance dressed as iconic characters. As the event drew to a close, all participants gathered in anticipation as Tannenbaum announced the winners of the raffle. Prizes included signed pucks from past and present Vegas Golden Knights players, a couple’s treatment at Canyon Ranch Spa, a four-pack of Aviator tickets and a signed hockey stick from Vegas Golden Knights Forward William “Wild Bill” Karlsson.
The 14th annual Teddy Bear Run and 1 Mile Walk was made possible with support from Center for Sight, Nevada Orthopedic and Spine Center, Walgreens, Health Plan of Nevada, The Center for Child and Family Development, Meineke Las Vegas, Women’s Health Associates of Southern Nevada (WHASN), Lockton Companies, Inovalon, AleraGroup, Hotworx, Maverick Pools, Vegas Tickets and Summer Health.
