The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notification inviting Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to participate in the Data Innovation Lab initiative launched by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The primary objective of the Data Innovation Lab is to promote the use of advanced information technology in official statistics. It aims to address challenges within the National Statistical System by developing innovative solutions through research in areas such as data analytics, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing.
According to the UGC notification, MoSPI plans to collaborate with academic institutions and research organisations through non-commercial memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to foster an innovation ecosystem. The Ministry is also seeking nominations of subject-matter experts from leading universities to serve as mentors, providing guidance and strategic advice on complex statistical issues.
