1. The World Bank has stated that Nigeria has one of the highest inflation rates which pushed an estimated four million people into poverty between January and May 2023. This was disclosed during the launch of the June 2023 edition of the Nigeria Development Update on Tuesday in Abuja.
2. A commercial driver, Bolaji Sunday, has been hospitalised after two yet-to-be-identified soldiers allegedly shot him for parking his vehicle at the front of the Oriental Transport Company around Magboro Bus Stop, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. It was gathered that Sunday left his residence and drove to the location to meet someone who wanted to connect him with a customer.
3. In a move to ensure hitch-free Sallah celebrations nationwide, the security forces have deployed operatives in Eid prayer grounds, recreation centres, and fun spots across the country. Additionally, the military has placed troops at operation theatres on red alert, just as the acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has dispatched thousands of police personnel at strategic points ahead of today’s celebrations.
4. Despite the curfew imposed by the Plateau State Government to curb insecurity in Mangu Local Government Area, gunmen, on Monday, killed five persons during an attack in Sohon Kerang community. It was gathered that the suspects, after perpetrating the crime between 5pm and 8pm, fled into the bush.
5. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a father, Gabriel Ekpiri, for selling his nine-year-old son for N400,000 in Itu Local Government Area of the state. The State Public Relations Officer, Odiko MacDon, in a statement, said the suspect was arrested by the Quick Intervention Squad of the command.
6. The leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has summoned meetings of its National Caucus and the long-awaited National Executive Committee. The meetings, which will be held on July 10 and 11 respectively, are expected to be the deciding factor to determine the fate of the National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and the National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore, both of who have been accused of flouting the party’s constitution.
7. President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, enjoined Muslims nationwide to imbibe tolerance and patience as Prophet Ibrahim did, urging them to remember the less fortunate as they celebrate another Eid. He described Eid as a festival of sacrifice and total obedience to Allah, as exemplified by the exceptional action of Prophet Ibrahim.
8. The 2023 general elections did not ensure a well-run transparent, and inclusive democratic process as assured by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) said on Tuesday in Abuja.
9. The Chairman of Livestock Sellers in Calabar, Alhaji Isiaka Mohammed says he keeps N1 million for settlements at checkpoints to move his livestock from the North to Cross River State in the South. Mohammed said this to the News Agency of Nigeria while reacting to the Eid-el-Kabir celebration and the prices of rams in the market.
10. The Zamfara State Government on Tuesday said it would never embark on peace negotiations or engage armed bandits in any dialogue in the state. The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Nakwada who addressed reporters, said the current administration has no intention of engaging any leader of bandits in the name of a peace deal.
