Charterhouse Lagos, West Africa’s first British independent school, was officially introduced to the Abuja community during an exclusive reception hosted by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery CMG.
The event, held on Thursday evening at the High Commissioner’s residence in Maitama, brought together key figures from government, business, education, and diplomatic circles.
Highlighting the institution’s significance, Montgomery stated, “Charterhouse Lagos represents a remarkable milestone in the educational collaboration between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. It brings over 400 years of British educational heritage into the Nigerian context, blending tradition with a forward-looking, global approach tailored for Nigerian and international students. I am thrilled to support this initiative as it raises the standard of education and leadership development across West Africa.”
Having commenced its Primary School operations in September last year, Charterhouse Lagos is already gaining recognition for its international teaching staff, emphasis on character building, and commitment to academic excellence.
The school is now opening admissions for its newly launched Secondary and Boarding School, scheduled to welcome students in Years 7 to 9 in September 2025.
Speaking on the school’s vision, John Todd, Director of Education at Charterhouse Lagos, remarked, “Our goal is to nurture students who excel academically, exude confidence, and embrace compassion, preparing them for global challenges and opportunities. Guests at the reception included Mr. Mark Healy, Head of Secondary School at Charterhouse Lagos; Ms. Nankling Danfulani, Trade Adviser at the UK Department for International Trade; and Ms. Enitan Olufojude, Marketing Manager at Charterhouse Lagos.
Admissions for the 2025 academic year are open, and parents are encouraged to visit the school’s website for enrollment details and campus tours.
