CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Supporting Teens Through the Summer: A Vital Resource in Charlotte
Summer is often seen as a time of fun and freedom for teens—but for many adolescents, it can also bring a surprising increase in anxiety, depression, and emotional distress. With school out, routines disappear. Sleep patterns shift. Social circles can shrink. The combination of too much free time and too little structure can take a toll on a teen’s mental and emotional well-being.
That’s why Teen Health Connection, a Charlotte-based nonprofit, is working year-round to ensure every adolescent feels seen, supported, and safe.
Dr. Jennifer Thomas, Chief Psychologist at Teen Health Connection, recently joined Charlotte Today to share how the organization is stepping in to meet the growing needs of young people—especially during the summer months when mental health concerns often spike.
Teen Health Connection provides comprehensive, adolescent-centered care all under one roof. It’s not just a clinic—it’s a holistic support system for teens and their families. Services include:
Medical care specifically focused on adolescent development
Mental health counseling for teens navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or stress
Parenting workshops to equip caregivers with tools, strategies, and support
Teen coaching and life skills programs to build confidence and resilience
The goal? To empower teens to make healthy choices, understand themselves, and thrive—emotionally, physically, and socially.
Summer can be a vulnerable time, but it doesn’t have to be. With the right resources, teens can use this season to grow, reflect, and heal.
If you or someone you know could benefit from Teen Health Connection’s services, visit TeenHealthConnection.org or call 704-381-TEEN (8336). Help, hope, and healing are closer than you think.
