The Indiana Department of Health reported its first confirmed case of measles in the state since early 2024.
Officials said the child from Allen County, which includes Fort Wayne, had not been vaccinated. The patient is recovering, and no other information will be shared to protect their privacy, officials said.
This is the first case of measles in Indiana since it was detected in a Lake County resident in early 2024, according to IDOH.

As of April 3, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports a total of 607 confirmed measles cases in 27 states, not including Indiana. Two children have died from measles-related illnesses in Texas, where a growing outbreak has infected hundreds of people. This week, the outbreak totals more than 500 cases, with two additional counties seeing cases.
The Texas Department of State Health Services says a majority of those impacted were not vaccinated.
Children are routinely vaccinated for measles at 12 to 15 months and again at 4 to 6 years of age — before going to kindergarten, but children as young as 6 months old can receive the measles vaccine if they are at risk.
If a child gets a vaccine before 12 months of age, they should also plan to get two more doses on the usual schedule, with the first being at 12 to 15 months.
Health officials say measles begins with a fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes about 7 to 14 days after exposure.
Adults are encouraged to check with their health care providers to ensure vaccinations are up to date.

Trump in excellent cognitive and physical health, says White House doctor – BBC
US President Donald Trump is in "excellent cognitive and physical health", says his White House physician.
In the first annual physical of his second presidential term at a Washington DC-area hospital, Trump was also found to have scarring "on the right ear from a gunshot wound", after an assassination attempt last July.
"President Trump remains in excellent health, exhibiting robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function," his doctor, Captain Sean Barbabella, said in a memo.
At 78, Trump was the oldest president to take office in January, though his predecessor, Joe Biden, was older at 82 by the time he left.
As a part of Friday's nearly five-hour medical examination at the Walter Reed hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, Trump received several blood tests, a cardiac examination and ultrasounds, said his doctor, a US Navy emergency physician who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State," Dr Barbabella wrote in the memo released by the White House on Sunday.
The president received neurological tests on his mental status, nerves, motor and sensory function and reflexes and showed no signs of depression or anxiety, according to the memo.
Trump was also given the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and scored 30 out of 30, said Dr Barbabella. The test is commonly used to detect cognitive decline and early signs of dementia and has tasks such as naming animals, drawing a clock and repeating words back five minutes later.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday, Trump said he "got every answer right" on the cognitive test.
"Overall, I felt I was in very good shape," Trump said. "A good heart, a good soul, a very good soul."
He added that doctors had given him "a little bit" of advice on lifestyle changes to improve his health, though he did not provide details.
Dr Barbabella also said Trump had "minor sun damage" and a few "benign skin lesions".
The president takes several medications to control his cholesterol – Rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe – as well as Aspirin for cardiac prevention and Mometasone cream for a skin condition, said the memo.
Trump's cardiac examination showed "no abnormalities", wrote Dr Barbabella.
The examination noted the president's medical history of "well-controlled hypercholesterolemia", a condition which can increase a patient's risk of a heart attack.
Other conditions noted in his medical history included a past Covid infection, rosacea, which is a skin condition often causing redness in the face, and a benign colon polyp.
The president weighs 224lb (101kg) and stands 6ft 2.5in tall, according to the records from Dr Barbabella. Trump has shed some pounds since February 2019, when he weighed 243lb.
Under the Body Mass Index calculator, he would currently be categorised within the overweight range, and not obese.
The memo noted that the president's "joints and muscles have a full range of motion", while crediting his good health to an active lifestyle, including "frequent victories in golf events".
It is the first medical report on Trump released to the public since a gunman tried to kill him at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last July, grazing his ear with a bullet.
At the time, Trump's former White House doctor, Ronny Jackson, released a report saying his injuries from the incident were superficial.
During Trump's first term in office, a White House doctor said he was in good health but needed to lose weight and exercise.
On the campaign trail, Trump frequently attacked his rival, Biden, over his cognitive and physical health.
After a poor debate performance last year against Trump, Biden declined to commit to taking a cognitive test, which he said he had not undergone while in office.
The Democrat and his family were not injured, while authorities say the fire caused "a significant amount of damage" to their house.
The rapid change of Trump's tariff policy has shoppers wondering if they should stock up or just wait this out.
It follows concerns that tech prices could skyrocket, as many gadgets are made in China, with the US president saying he will give more detail on Monday.
A judge has called for the Trump administration to facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the US.
Steve Witkoff held talks with the Russian president, meanwhile Moscow's ambassador to the UK told the BBC the US is not Russia's ally.

A youth group, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ipong Ward chapter in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, has countered a recent petition against the Provost of the Federal College of Education (FCE) Obudu, Dr. Richard Otubaku.
The petition filed by a faction of chiefs and youths from Urban Ward 1, called for Otubaku’s removal, citing vague allegations.
Reacting to the development, the group dismissed the petition as politically motivated and lacking in merit.
They argued that it was the handiwork of a few disgruntled individuals seeking to tarnish the image of a well-performing provost whose efforts have brought significant development to the institution.
Speaking in Calabar on Sunday, the NYCN President of Ipong Ward, Comrade Ugwakong Emmanuel, said their counter-petition was to inform relevant authorities that the original petition does not reflect the true sentiments of the Obudu people.
According to him, Otubaku has consistently demonstrated leadership excellence and deserves commendation, not condemnation.
“The petition was clearly orchestrated by a faction from just one ward—Urban Ward 1—without the consent or knowledge of the remaining nine wards that make up Obudu LGA,” Emmanuel said. “How can a single ward speak for the entire local government?”
He noted that since assuming office in 2022, Otubaku has outperformed his predecessors in infrastructural development, administrative discipline, and fostering peace on campus.
In the counter-petition dated April 3, 2025, and addressed to the Minister of Education, the group emphasized that the “Otubaku Must Go” campaign does not reflect the collective will of the Obudu people. “One ward cannot arrogate to itself the voice of the entire community,” the petition read.
The document, signed by NYCN Secretary (Ipong Ward), Comrade Beshel Moses, and 33 other youth leaders, urged the federal government to disregard the original petition and recognize Otubaku’s achievements.
They listed ongoing and completed projects under his tenure to include a 500-capacity CBT center, completion of 58 academic staff offices, a modern academic conference hall, a functional entrepreneurship center, renovation of classrooms, and the establishment of a water factory within the college.
The group challenged critics to objectively compare Otubaku’s record with that of past administrators.
“The peace and progress currently enjoyed at FCE Obudu are no coincidence,” they stated. “No student or staff protest has occurred under his watch—a clear sign of effective leadership.”

Offering quality and creativity in equal strokes, Canvas Coffee + Art House recently opened its doors just north of downtown Greenville, South Carolina.
Coffees prepared with pointillist precision are served over a white marble bar fronted with thin slats of light-colored natural wood inside the new cafe on W. Stone Ave. Abundant natural light streaming through two floor-to-ceiling windows glints upon clear glass manual pourover brewing equipment next to a white La Marzocco GB5 espresso machine.
Apart from a few potted plants and creative mugs, the clean white of the shop’s tables, chairs and walls is interrupted only by the shop’s works of art, both visual and drinkable.
The cafe doubles as a gallery space, hosting quarterly shows featuring local artists arranged by Canvas Coffee + Art House Co-Founder Genavieve Gilbert, a painter whose works also appear on the company’s whole bean retail packaging.
The coffee bags will eventually showcase works by guest artists as Canvas rolls out a seasonal rotation of coffees. Co-founder Arin Gilbert transforms the shop’s coffees from green to brown inside a 600-square-foot offsite facility with a Diedrich IR-2.5 roaster.
“Genavieve and I collaborate on each coffee bag’s artwork. The goal is for each design to reflect the coffee it represents, adding depth to the experience,” Arin Gilbert told Daily Coffee News. “We aim for designs that highlight flavors, evoke emotions, and tell a story that I believe corresponds with the coffee. Some pieces are digital art of mine, but we plan to primarily feature Genavieve’s work and plan to incorporate other artists.”
After 15 years of working tech sector jobs for companies such as Apple and T-Mobile, Arin Gilbert followed his personal passion into the specialty coffee industry by selling cold brew, pourovers and cocktails at pop-ups around Austin, Texas, under the name Violet Crown Coffee.
Today Gilbert turns to importers such as Royal New York and Genuine Origin for green coffees that are both approachable and exciting, dialing in classic, chocolatey profiles alongside brighter, more acidic options. The gallery of coffees served in the cafe is rounded out with offerings from guest roasters, currently including California-based Feast Coffee and fellow Greenville company Wimp Decaf.
“Every selection reflects our commitment to quality, versatility, and storytelling through coffee,” Gilbert said. “We value the creativity of the coffee community and plan to continue featuring select roasters. These partnerships allow us to showcase a variety of expressions in specialty coffee while sharing stories of excellence.”
In the shop and in Canvas’s web store, coffees share shelf space with prints of original works by Genavieve Gilbert. Snacks to accompany the coffees at the cafe include locally baked goods from Blue Ridge Bake Shop, vegan and gluten-free treats from Sunrise Bakes and, as a Friday special, burritos from Daylight Burrito.
Outside of regular operating hours, the Gilberts plan to host community events such as classes, artist meet-ups, and coffee brewing and latte art classes.
“We’re building an artist community to foster creativity while expanding our roasting operation to make Canvas known for excellence in specialty coffee,” Arin Gilbert said. “Our latte art classes are already sold out for the next month, and we’re planning to add professional and home barista skills workshops. Ultimately, we want Canvas to be a hub for connection, creativity, and outstanding coffee, making a meaningful impact in Greenville and beyond.”
