This year’s fellowship highlights the power of inclusive innovation, featuring an equal split of male and female founders who are developing cutting-edge solutions to transform education in Nigeria and across the continent. The startups’ diverse approaches address critical education gaps—from AI-powered learning platforms and digital financial literacy tools to virtual science labs reaching rural classrooms without internet access. Many of these innovations, led by women founders, exemplify the Fellowship’s vision for scalable, future-ready learning solutions across Africa.
“As we welcome our third cohort, we are thrilled by the innovative and high-impact solutions these startups are bringing forward. This year’s selection was more competitive than ever, reflecting our focus on ventures addressing critical gaps in Africa’s education landscape. Our aim is to equip young people with the skills needed to thrive and lead in a rapidly evolving world. These startups are bold steps toward shaping the future of learning and long-term prosperity across the continent.”
-Nissi Madu, Managing Partner, CcHUB

-Louisa Olafuyi, Co-founder, Kunda Kids (a Cohort 1 startup)

“With the Fellowship’s support, we closed our $1.1 million pre-seed round, rebranded to Lingawa, and laid the groundwork for our best sales performance yet. The program helped us build a stronger team and connected us to an inspiring network of founders. We’re excited to see how the new Cohort 3 will continue to transform education in Nigeria.”
-Frank Williams, CEO, Lingawa
Following a rigorous screening process, CcHUB selected 12 startups for the 2025 Cohort 3, marking another important milestone in Africa’s EdTech landscape. The 12 startups selected for the 2025 Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship Cohort 3 are AI Teacha, Blue and Sand, Cloudnotte, FlexiSAF (Distinction), HiPrep Online, I-Train Africa, Kryptr, Mavis Computel, Smart Steward Academy, Tespire, Sproutly Inc., and VarsityScape.
“Accelerate solutions that serve even those out-of-school young people who are constantly left out of the education ecosystem. it is when we design with the end user in mind that the business case for the solution is more scalable, sustainable and impactful.”
-Rodwell Mangisi, the Acting Director at the Mastercard Foundation Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning
Over the next 6 months, CcHUB will support the 2025 cohort in their efforts to not only scale their solutions but also build capacity and stronger networks and partnerships while also remodelling their innovations for better impact on the future of learning in Africa.
In addition to advisory and mentoring sessions with a pool of subject matter experts, the Fellows will also receive up to $100,000 in non-equity grants and continued advisory support for an additional 12 months upon completion of the accelerator program.
The Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship aims to support EdTech companies across Africa that address learning challenges in K-12, tertiary education, and vocational training. The expectation is that these solutions will be part of the urgent and critical response in addressing many of Africa’s long-standing challenges that have affected enrolment, quality and availability of effective educational options for the continent’s young population.

What to Do If You Can’t Pay Your Medical Bill in NYC – documentedny.com

What to Do If You Can’t Pay Your Medical Bill in NYC – documentedny.com

What to know if you can’t pay your medical bill in NYC:
Navigating New York City’s healthcare system can be overwhelming. If you have a medical bill that you can’t afford, know that there is help available.
If you’re new to the city, regardless of your country of origin or immigration status, you have the right to access affordable or even free healthcare coverage that will help pay your medical bills.
Enrolling in a health insurance plan should be one of your first steps you take when settling in NYC. However, if you don’t have insurance yet and need to visit the doctor, it’s important to know that hospitals cannot demand immediate payment when you leave. You have the right to explore health coverage options first.
Also Read: How to Cover Emergency Medical Care in NYC if You’re Uninsured
All hospitals in New York State are required to offer Charity Care, a financial assistance program that helps low-income patients cover medical costs, no matter their immigration status.
Keep in mind though, that even with Charity Care, private hospital bills may still be higher than those at public hospitals.
If you receive a hospital bill you can’t afford, ask about the hospital’s Charity Care program and how to apply. You can do it anytime: once you arrive, after receiving care or when you get the bill.  Every hospital’s financial assistance policy is different, so request a copy of the specific policy where you received care. However, there are some basic elements all hospitals must offer, which we explain below.
If you already have health insurance you’re already in a strong position. Health insurance makes it easier and cheaper to see a doctor, meaning that you’re able to seek out preventative care and treat minor issues before they become major ones. If you get sick or injured, your insurance may cover significant medical costs, protecting you from having to pay large bills.
If you don’t have health insurance yet: Ask to speak with a financial counselor at NYC Health + Hospitals. They can help you enroll in a free or low-cost health insurance plan, if you qualify.
You can also contact a Health Care Navigator — trained professionals who can walk you through your options and help with enrollment. Their assistance is free and confidential, and you should never be asked to pay for information or for help signing up for insurance.
For more help, visit: nystateofhealth.ny.gov or call: 1-855-355-5777.
If you don’t qualify for a specific health insurance, can’t afford a plan, or don’t have money to pay for care, you may still be eligible for financial assistance.
You may be eligible for help with medical bills if:
If you qualify for hospital financial assistance:
Remember: Your immigration status is not a factor in this process and hospitals cannot ask about it when you apply.
If you’ve confirmed that you’re responsible for a medical bill, you may still be able to negotiate the amount you owe. Many non-hospital providers offer financial assistance or are open to setting up payment plans. Download a step-by-step guide to negotiating medical debt here
Community Health Advocates (CHA) is an organization with the mission to help New Yorkers navigate the complex healthcare system. Here are a few of their tips and reminders:

As someone who’s tested her fair share of skincare products and treatments, I thought I had a decent handle on my skin. I cleanse, I serum, I SPF (religiously), and I also get monthly facials. But deep down, I still had questions — why am I still breaking out like a teenager? Are those wrinkles or just really intense smile lines? And is my skin texture just what it’s going to be forever? That’s when I booked a consultation and discovered the skincare trifecta I didn’t know I needed: VISIA skin analysis, the NeoElite laser, and microneedling at Studio 17 in Hoboken. Located at 601 9th Street, it’s a skin medspa + hidden gem right near the 9th Street light rail, across from Black Rail Coffee.
Let me walk you through what it was like, because this wasn’t just another facial, and it really changed my skin for the better over the course of a few months. (And no, this wasn’t sponsored. The sessions were gifted, but we never talk about things on our site that our team doesn’t like as a general rule.)

Picture this: you rest your chin on a scanner, and in seconds, you’re face-to-face with everything going on underneath your skin. I’m talking years of sun damage, pore counts (yes, actual numbers), bacteria hanging out in places they shouldn’t be, and texture you didn’t even know existed.

The VISIA analysis breaks it down into six main categories:

It wasn’t scary, it was empowering. For once, I had a clear, data-backed understanding of what my skin was dealing with, and better yet, a customized plan to fix it. I’m 38, and it said my skin is age 34 (woo!), but from the looks of it, we need some work underneath the surface, and some of the lines (I’m trying to avoid botox these days days) are actually from dehydration, which is something I’m also working on. That’s when Studio 17’s treatment series really takes it to the next step to get things going.

I’ll admit it: I’ve always been a little nervous about lasers. Downtime? Redness? Burning? No thanks. But the NeoElite laser completely changed my mind. It’s a no-downtime treatment (really, my skin looked fine after, not even red!), and it works beneath the surface, so the top layer of skin stays totally intact.
Becca tailored the treatment to tackle two big things in combination with a derma planing facial. No numbing involved, no burning, it was quite a simple process.
Here’s what the NeoElite can treat:
My protocol? Six sessions spaced four weeks apart, with 3-4 touch-ups yearly for maintenance. After just one treatment, I saw a noticeable improvement in tone and glow.

If you’ve never tried microneedling, it sounds intense. But in reality? It felt more like a weirdly satisfying vibrating facial, and the results were 100% worth it. I actually recorded a video of myself getting it, and it was hilarious because I legitimately said, “Wait, is that it?”
Microneedling creates tiny, controlled injuries that tell your skin, “Hey, let’s rebuild better.” And rebuild it does, especially with:
The best part? It’s a natural process: no harsh chemicals, just your own skin doing its thing. I was told to start with 4-6 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart, then do 3-4 per year to keep the momentum going. I’m two sessions in, and my skin already feels firmer and more even. I do these every other month for my protocol, but I have already done three laser sessions.
The one big thing: recovery from microneedling.

I was a little nervous because I’ve heard mixed post-treatment experiences, but decided being a recluse for a few days was in the cards and necessary, especially with all the rain — easy peasy. It really did not end up being that bad. And in a few days, my new skin was looking GUUUD.
One of the most refreshing parts of this experience was Becca’s approach. She has skin like an ice skating rink/glass (in the best kind of way), so I immediately trusted her. She knew exactly the products I was using and confirmed they’re good to use, and recommended a treatment/skin protocol that was effective yet not overpowering, given my hectic schedule.
And regarding the practice, Dr. Walters (the doctor who heads the practice) has been in the skincare world since 2015 (originally as an Ob/Gyn, fun fact), and her journey into aesthetics came from seeing real-life gaps in how skin, hormones, and well-being were being addressed in traditional medicine.
The whole team’s vibe? Holistic, thoughtful, and deeply personalized. I have been to many medspas, and this one really brought it home for me.
studio 17 skin analysis laser miconeedling hoboken nj
In a heartbeat. (And no, of course, this is not dermatological or medical advice — but it’s been working for me! Always consult with your physician or medical provider first.) I also get regular facials and peels at another local spot, and they’re amazing, but if you’re looking for intense, under-the-skin and texture-based work on your epidermis, this. Is. It. Studio 17 also has an array of facials, treatments, injectables, and more, but when it comes to this trifecta, it was super helpful for my skin.

(In fact, I’ve had several friends ask me about my *sKiNcArE rOuTiNe* and make appointments at Studio 17 since. No lie (or cap? …as the kids say).)

All you need is 30 minutes and a pair of dumbbells for Arnie’s Pump Club workout – The Manual

All you need is 30 minutes and a pair of dumbbells for Arnie’s Pump Club workout – The Manual

Arnie is known for his impressive strength and muscular physique. Many of us might think we couldn’t possibly work out like Arnie; however, in his Pump Club Newsletter, Arnie shared a refreshingly simple and bite-sized workout for us to try. The best part is you only need 30 minutes and a pair of dumbbells to pump iron like the renowned bodybuilder himself, which is excellent news for those of us with busy schedules. The champion bodybuilder doesn’t want this workout to get complicated with switching machines, weights, and equipment; just grab your dumbbells.
Arnie’s 30-minute routine can help you build full-body strength either using a barbell or two dumbbells, so it’s perfect if you want to work out at home. The focus is on lower reps with a heavier weight and sufficient recovery between each movement. Lift the heavy weights with control and intention without rushing through the movements. It’s important you choose a heavy weight that you can lift safely without compromising your form.
Start your timer for 30 minutes and power through three to six reps of each of the following exercises, resting for 60 seconds between each movement:
Keep going through the exercises until that timer stops.
If you only have 20 minutes, you can try that instead; however, the goal is to complete those reps and rest for the full 60 seconds before moving on to the next exercise. You can also stretch your muscles when you’re done to help reduce muscle soreness from heavy lifting.
If you feel like you’re resting a lot with this workout, Arnie recommends these rest times to help you get through the heavy lifting. Some research reveals that those longer rest periods of 60 seconds or more could result in greater increases in muscle mass and strength.
Additional research showed that the best rest intervals to promote muscle growth are between 30 and 90 seconds. For this champion bodybuilder, it’s not about powering through the most reps in the least time; the goal is to lift heavy with control and intention. We’re happy to see Arnie is still delivering awesome workouts for us to try.
Some people can zoom past the rest like a gust of wind across the finish line, while others aren’t as fast on their feet. What feels fast for one person might not feel so fast for someone else. I’m curious about the average human running speed, and how I measure up. Thinking about this made me dart around my neighborhood at full power.
Marathoners often try to beat their previous times and set a faster and more efficient pace. Several factors influence running speed and performance, including fitness level, training history, and running experience. Your pace is only a part of the picture. Let’s look at the average running speed for various distances.
We all need our sleep. Personally, I feel a lot better after getting a full night’s rest, and I’m not yawning my way through the day. Researchers have found that a lack of sleep increases your risk of a range of conditions, including depression, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, and heart attack. All the more reason to prioritize your sleep.
I know I’m not functioning at my best if I haven’t got enough shut eye, so I certainly wouldn’t be trying to run a marathon or anything on those days. Research shows that runners who sleep less hours actually do take longer to cross that finish line, highlighting a connection between running performance and sleep.
The muscles in your legs are some of the biggest in the body, which means you need more resistance and effort to train them. This is one of the reasons why your leg day workout can feel so tiring.
I remember when I went through months of physical therapy learning how to walk again after a major surgery, my quads and hamstrings had become so weak on one side that they would shake when I first started to workout. I would often walk back to my car with jelly legs. By the end of physical therapy and plenty of leg days, I developed serious muscle strength in my quads and hamstrings on both sides, so it’s worth it.
