KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A brand new sensory room has been added at Pleasant Ridge Elementary School, allowing students to take a break from school work and focus on themselves in any way they need to, from mental health to emotional well-being.
The room was donated by Blue Care Tennessee with only three zip codes in the state being chosen to apply. Jennifer Morell, Executive Principal of Pleasant Ridge Elementary said she’s thankful for the room so staff can continue helping students.
“Opportunities to self-regulate their emotions, work on their focus, destress, increase their motor coordination and function —and in a lot of ways it’s a very healthy room mentally and emotionally for our students,” Morell said.
She also said students are able to sign up for time to take structured breaks so they can all get to use the room more than once.
