Over 1,200 students attend 2023 Education USA Fair – Khmer Times

More than 1,200 students from nearly 30 universities and high schools across the country participated in this year’s Education USA Fair held at Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh yesterday.
Speaking at the fair, the US Ambassador to Cambodia Patrick Murphy said that it provided a unique opportunity for Cambodian students to learn more about higher education in the US and connect with representatives of almost 30 educational institutions, who provided more information about the programmes they offer, admission requirements and the application process.
The students and parents were also able to attend sessions of the EducationUSA Adviser and Consular Officers to learn more about student visas and the procedures to study in the US.
Ambassador Murphy said that “Cambodian students’ interest in attending colleges and universities in the US has consistently risen since 2012. Even during the pandemic, Cambodia was the only ASEAN country to see an increase in the number of students going to the US.
The US higher education institutions are recognised worldwide for their high-quality education, which contributes to the development of communities.
He added, “We are pleased that Cambodian students recognise the value of US higher education, where there are over 4,000 colleges and universities. We have something for everyone: public, private, military, big, small, urban and rural.”
Ambassador Murphy said that the US Embassy is committed to providing Cambodians with information about opportunities to pursue higher education at various US institutions.
“In Cambodia, we promote these educational opportunities through the EducationUSA Fair Advising Centres in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. The US Embassy also promotes these opportunities through engagements at four centres in Battambang, Kampong Cham, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap and in schools throughout the country,” he said.
Grade 12 students and sisters, Ung Chanvisal and Ung Tivira, who  attended the Education USA Fair, said yesterday that they participated in the fair because they wanted to find an opportunity to study with an accredited university in the US after completing their high school at the end of this year.
The two sisters added that the US has the highest quality education and it will help them get a good job with a good salary after completing their graduation in the US.
“I think that this Education USA Fair is very important because it provides a unique opportunity for Cambodian students to study in the United States,” Chanvisal said.
“I am seeking an accredited university in the United States for me and my younger sister to apply to,” she said.
Peng Ratana, another grade 12 student of Chea Sim Samakky High School, said that he participated in the fair because he wanted to know about the educational opportunities in the US, which has worldwide recognition and standards.
