NUT honours six governors over education reforms – Guardian Nigeria

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has honoured Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for reforming Kano State’s education sector. A statement at the weekend by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, said the award was presented during the celebration of this year’s World Teachers’ Day at the Eagle Square in Abuja, organised in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.
The event brought together teachers from across the 36 states to recognise the significant contributions made to the sector. Yusuf was honoured with the NUT Golden Award for his “transformative efforts in rescuing Kano’s education sector from years of decay and neglect.”
In his remarks, NUT National Chairman, Titus Ambe, said only six governors were selected for the honour, based on their commitment to advancing education, particularly through the support of teachers’ welfare and continuous training.
President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, commended the governors for their dedication.
Speaking on behalf of the six awardees, which included the governors of Borno, Oyo, Benue, Enugu and Kebbi states, Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to further investing in education, emphasising the importance of sustaining progress to ensure future generations thrive.
Equally, Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly Speaker, Jibril Ismail Falgore, has congratulated the governor on the feat. He also applauded Yusuf for clinching another award from the United States Chartered Institute of Management and Leadership.
This congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, yesterday.
