Single psilocybin trip delivers two years of depression relief for cancer patients – ScienceDaily
New results from a clinical trial reveal that a single dose of psilocybin — a naturally occurring psychedelic compound found in mushrooms — can provide sustained reductions in depression and anxiety in individuals with cancer suffering from major depressive disorder. The findings are published by Wiley online in CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society.
People with cancer often struggle with depression. In this phase 2 trial, 28 patients with cancer and major depressive disorder received psychological support from a therapist prior to, during, and following a single 25-mg dose of psilocybin.
During clinical interviews conducted 2 years later, 15 (53.6%) patients demonstrated a significant reduction in depression, and 14 (50%) had sustained depression reduction as well as remission. Similarly, psilocybin reduced anxiety for 12 (42.9%) patients at 2 years.
An ongoing randomized, double-blind trial is currently evaluating up to two doses of 25 mg of psilocybin versus placebo as treatment for depression and anxiety in patients with cancer. This study is building on the single-dose study in an effort to bring a larger majority of the patients into remission of depression and anxiety.
“One dose of psilocybin with psychological support to treat depression has a long-term positive impact on relieving depression for as much as 2 years for a substantial portion of patients with cancer, and we’re exploring whether repeating the treatment resolves depression for more than half of the patients,” said lead author Manish Agrawal, MD, of Sunstone Therapies. “If randomized testing shows similar results, this could lead to greater use of psilocybin to treat depression in patients with cancer.”

Whether you’re an HGTV fanatic, love to tackle home DIY projects, or always hire a pro to update your home, we all know what we like when we see it. Maybe a visit to your favorite restaurant sparks something deep inside of you and lets you know it’s time to do some updating. Or perhaps you like to keep things clean, simple, and classic to make it easier to change out pillows, rugs, and throws because that’s what brings you joy.
Home trends come and go just like every other trend, and it can be fun to be in the know while keeping your own style. We’ve seen everything from the rust oranges of the 70s, deep mauves and shiny gold of the 90s, and who didn’t get a little shabby chic crazy in the early 2000’s when it seemed like many of us were slipcovering every pieces of furniture and painting at least one thing white and sanding it down.
We talked with James Belanger, owner of J.A. Belanger Inc. of Topsham, who let us in on the latest home trends. Right now, he says he sees lots of customers keeping things simple and using what they already have.
“Customers are into large tiles, especially for floors, and matching the grout color to the tile,” he says.
This creates a cohesive look, can make your space look larger, and is great when you have a dark color tile since we all know white grout can yellow very quickly. Especially when it’s on the floor.
“Black windows are more popular than white right now,” says Belanger, who chose black windows when remodeling his own home. They have a sharp appearance and while they are usually more expensive than white windows, they are the one thing homeowners are willing to splurge on.
“Black is just as classic as white and it won’t be a purchase that any homeowner is going to regret during the lifetime of the windows.”
Homeowners are keeping colors clean and simple too. Belanger sees lots of customers doing shades of white in different sheens. White paint is another design choice that’s been around a long time and will stay. It also appeals to potential buyers if you are fixing up your home with the intent to sell in the future.
These days, most homeowners are using what they already have, which is a change in the last few years.
“Remodeling always used to be more expensive [than building new], but now with the new insulation codes, it is more expensive to build new so people are working with what’s already there, instead of tearing out walls and starting new.”
Some inexpensive ways to give your home a little facelift:
Paint it. From your cabinets to your floors to an accent wall, paint gives you the most bang for your buck. Depending on the size of the project, it can likely be done in a weekend — and redone when you get tired of it and want a fresh color.
Change your knobs. If you don’t want to completely redo your cabinets, even if they are dated, updating the handles and knobs can give your entire kitchen a simple makeover.
Shiplap. Do one wall, the back of your kitchen island, or around your fireplace. You can buy faux shiplap panels, hire an expert to do it, or create your own shiplap look with aged barn wood.
Things evolve and our taste in how we like our space to look is no different. It can be so rewarding to recreate for ourselves. After all, there’s no place like home.

Unity School alumni decry falling standard of Nigeria’s public education – TheCable
The Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) has decried the failing standard of public schools across the country, calling for their upgrade to a smart school model.
Michael Magaji, the president-general of USOSA, was at the 44th USOSA plenary session held in Enugu on Sunday.
He said most public schools lack critical infrastructure for teaching and learning.
“Let’s be honest. The present state of public education in Nigeria is not where it should be, and UNESCO statistics showed that over 20 million Nigerian children are out of school,” he said.
“Many government schools are still operating without electricity, internet connectivity, desks and even trained teachers.”
The USOSA president, however, commended the Enugu state government for pioneering efforts in smart and digital education.
He said the smart schools stood as models to be replicated by other sub-national governments across the country.
Magaji recommended that state governments adapt their education service delivery systems to the changing demands of the digital age.
“Smart schools are now testing and strengthening critical thinking, creativity, and digital skills in students,” he said.
“This new pedagogy pivots from the traditional uni-directional instruction to a more interactive and active transformation where students not only learn but co-create improved learning outcomes.”
Magaji identified access as the major challenge, noting that with political will, investment, and collective action, available potential would be turned into progress.
On his part, Chidiebere Onyia, the secretary to the Enugu government, emphasised the vision behind the state’s smart school model.
He noted that many had dismissed the governor Peter Mbah’s ambitions, such as raising the state’s GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion, as theoretical, but they were now seeing it come to life.
“The governor doesn’t just see education as a huddle of delivery but part of a whole ecosystem for transforming the economy,” Onyia said.
“What we are doing is beyond the typical 4–8-year political cycle.
“These smart green schools are about building a learning culture that sustains economic growth, addresses unemployment, and improves security.”

Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra owners in the US were among the first to get access to the One UI 8 beta program, with the first beta update released in late May. Now, users in the country who prefered staying on One UI 7 are also getting a new software update.
This new update brings the June 2025 security patch to Samsung’s latest flagship lineup. Like other markets, only the original three models are getting the June update. The Galaxy S25 Edge isn’t included in the rollout at the time of writing. Like Galaxy S FE smartphones, the Galaxy S25 Edge is likely to receive all updates on a separate schedule.
You can identify the update by the build number S93xU1UES4AYE3 or S93xUSQS4AYE4 depending on whether you own a unlocked or carrier variant of the S25, S25+, or S25 Ultra. To download it, access your phone’s Settings » Software update menu and select the Download and install option. You can also download Galaxy S25 firmware from SamMobile.

What about the Galaxy S25 Edge? The Edge model went on sale in late May and has yet to receive any software update. That could change in the coming days, but there’s no way to be sure. Only Samsung knows when the first Galaxy S25 Edge update will be released.
