New Data Reveals Top 10 Fitness Routines That Pose Greater Risk to Women’s Health

The study reveals that exercise equipment tops the list of unsafe and dangerous physical activities for women.

A Las Vegas injury law firm, Ladah Injury & Car Accident Lawyers, analyzed sports and recreational injury data from America’s National Safety Council. From 2019 to 2023, average number of injuries per 100,000 females was calculated to identify the top 10 most dangerous physical activities that can pose a threat to a woman’s life.

Exercise equipment ranks first among 10 most dangerous physical activities for women with an average female injury rate of 112.7 per 100,000 females. The year 2023 recorded the highest female jury rate of 122.2 per 100,000 females while 2020 had the lowest rate of 99.6 per 100,000 females.

Bicycles and accessories occupy the second spot with an average rate of 62.3 per 100,000 females. While 2023 reported the five-year low of 56.3 per 100,000 females, the highest rate of female injuries (71.9) was recorded in 2020.

Ranking third, playground equipment is the next most dangerous routine with an average female injury of 51.1 per 100,000. Between 2019 and 2023, the highest rate of female injuries (63.1) was recorded in 2019 while the five-year low (32.9) was reported in 2020.

Looking at the study, a spokesperson at Ladah Law commented:

“The study highlights that exercise equipment, bicycle, and playground equipment are more likely to give women an injury, disrupting their fitness journey in the process.

“Activities with higher injury rates have serious implications on a woman’s career and her fitness routines. Serious injuries often lead to longer recovery periods and several medical bills.

“Instead of indulging in such injury-prone activities, women may consider other alternatives like contact sports or yoga sessions. Furthermore, body-weight exercises with minimum equipment can reduce the chances of getting hurt.”

Basketball is the fourth most dangerous sport with an average injury rate of 33.2 per 100,000 females. In 2019, the five-year high of 44.4 per 100,000 females was recorded and 2020 reports the lowest injury rate of 25.1 per 100,000 female players.

Trampolines take the fifth spot with an average rate of 32.8 per 100,000 females. Over the study period, the lowest injury rate of 30.4 per 100,000 females was recorded in 2020 while the highest rate of female injury (34.8) was reported in 2019.

Soccer (6th) has an average injury rate of 27.8 per 100,000 females, followed by skating excluding in-line (7th) at 26.5, baseball and softball (8th) at 25.7, volleyball (9th) at 17.7, and football (10th) at 8.9.
