Health Check: Why fiber is important in your diet – KBTX

March is National Nutrition Month, and St. Joseph Health wants us to be sure we are putting the right things in our bodies.
Fiber is crucial in a diet and has many benefits, such as lowering blood sugar and cholesterol and helping with digestive health.
Clinical Nutrition Market Director Tara Taylor says a good way to incorporate fiber in your diet is to make sure you are eating 100% whole wheat bread, nuts, fruits and vegetables.
Taylor also says you can have too much fiber which may affect your body negatively.
“If you add fiber too fast, you can have some undesirable side effects with that. So you want to gradually incorporate fiber and also make sure you’re drinking plenty of water.”
St. Joseph Health will continue to promote healthy living and eating habits throughout March.
