In this interview, she speaks on her philanthropy drive.
Take us through your career path?
I started my career as a model, gaining prominence through Nigeria’s Next Super Model and walking in major fashion weeks worldwide. My journey in fashion has taken me across the globe, but I’ve also branched out into other areas, such as entrepreneurship. I founded Morey Faith Collections, a premium clothing line that has grown over the last five years. Beyond fashion, I am a Solar energy Consultant, leveraging my expertise in renewable energy. Most recently, I appeared on ‘The Real Housewives of Lagos’, where my vibrant personality shunned through.
I am an advocate for the education of children between the ages of five to 15 years across public schools in Nigeria through Okachi Charity Foundation.
What informed your passion for philanthropy?
Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the challenges that underprivileged communities faced, especially in Nigeria. This deepened my desire to give back. I realized that education is a powerful tool for change, and helping disadvantaged children access quality education became my passion. My philanthropy is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves a chance to succeed.
What is the inspiration behind The Okachi Charity Foundation?
The primary inspiration behind Okachi Charity Foundation is my grandmother, Mrs. Charity Okachi, who dedicated over three decades of her life to public education. Her passion for teaching and helping children living in low-income backgrounds succeed and become a driving force for me to continue her legacy. I believe every child, regardless of their financial background, deserves access to quality education. The Foundation was born out of this belief, and my goal is to honour her memory by ensuring that education transforms the lives of Nigerian children. My passion for philanthropy stems from my upbringing in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, where I witnessed firsthand the educational challenges faced by children from low-income backgrounds. My grandmother, Mrs. Charity Okachi, was a dedicated public school teacher, and her tireless commitment to educating children in our community left a lasting impact on me. I realised that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and I wanted to contribute to that cause. This desire to uplift and empower children through education inspired me to establish the Okachi Charity Foundation.
With your focus on education for disadvantaged Nigerian children, how are you achieving this goal?
We are achieving our goals through a combination of community-driven initiatives and partnerships. One of our key efforts is our volunteer teacher initiative, which helps place qualified teachers in underfunded schools. Additionally, we provide scholarships, renovate schools, and distribute school kits to students in need. Our recent successes, like students winning local quiz competitions, show the real-world impact of these programmes. We also advocate for education through community outreach and awareness campaigns, highlighting the importance of quality education for all.
