The Federal Ministry of Education has awarded a prestigious honuor to Mrs. Dorothy Ukachukwu, Principal of Federal Government Girls College, Abuloma, Rivers State, in recognition of her exceptional leadership in the education sector.
The accolade was presented during the 2024 World Teachers’ Day celebrations at Eagle Square in Abuja, bringing together a gathering of educators, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the nation.
Mrs. Ukachukwu was awarded the title of Best School Leader and Principal at the event, honoring her transformative leadership that has elevated standards in school administration and student achievement, as stated in a release from the Federal Ministry of Education.
The release further lauded Mrs. Ukachukwu for her visionary approach, which has turned the Nigerian Government College Abuloma into a beacon of educational innovation and excellence. Her leadership style, characterised by empathy and inclusivity, has nurtured a creative environment where both staff and students thrive, particularly excelling in the fields of science, technology, and innovation.
Presenting the Presidential Award for Excellence in School Leadership, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman commended Mrs. Ukachukwu’s dedication, excellence, and ability to inspire and motivate students.
The Minister emphasised the crucial role of educators in shaping the future of Nigeria, highlighting outstanding leaders like Mrs. Ukachukwu as key to nurturing the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and leaders.
Born in Anambra State and from Ogbaru Local Government Area, Mrs. Ukachukwu is a seasoned educationist with over three decades of teaching experience. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Benin. Currently serving as a Director in the Federal Ministry of Education and Principal of Federal Government Girls College, Abuloma, she is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, African Principals Conference Initiative (APCI), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), and Counseling Association of Nigeria (CASSON).
In a related development, the Federal Ministry of Education recognized Federal Government Girls College, Akwa Ibom State, as the Best Unity School of 2024 for its exceptional academic performance, extracurricular achievements, and community engagement.
