DigiHealth Specialists, established in 2022, aims to address gaps in healthcare by using technology to improve access and efficiency. The company, in partnership with Time Medical Systems, a manufacturer of MRI systems, seeks to make healthcare more affordable and accessible.
“All our devices follow the mission of providing the three As of advanced, affordable, and accessible,” said Joyce Socao, managing director and CEO for the Asean region of Time Medical Systems. “Next year we will need 176 more MRIs in the country according to the Department of Health. We joined this company that manufactures MRIs to bring down the cost of availing special features.”
Socao, who also leads DigiHealth Specialists, highlighted major health concerns in the Philippines. She cited stroke as the second leading cause of death from 2009 to 2019 and one of the top causes of disability. She also pointed out that in 2022, there were an estimated 20 million new cancer cases, 9.7 million cancer-related deaths, and 2.3 million neonatal deaths globally.
Time Medical Systems offers MRI solutions targeting these issues. The PICA MRI system is designed for patients with limited mobility, while the EMMA MRI focuses on breast cancer detection. NEONA, the first FDA-approved neonatal MRI, can be placed in neonatal intensive care units to reduce risks during transport.
A key feature of the MRI systems is their AI-driven teleradiology function, which allows radiologists to read scans remotely.
“This will address the shortage of radiologists and imaging facilities, especially in rural areas,” Socao said.
DigiHealth Specialists also introduced the DigiHealth ATM, an automated telehealth machine that provides medical checkups in minutes. It includes a handheld X-ray that detects lung diseases in two minutes.
“Our objective is not to replace healthcare providers. Rather, we would like to work on the gaps and the missing pieces to connect all of you, all of us,” Socao said.
