WILLIAMSBURG — While many consider Busch Gardens a place to ride rollercoasters and find their next theme park snack, the park is also launching into some new health initiatives ahead of the busy summer season.
As guests enter the main part of the park in England, a new sign detailing the mileage and inclines around the park greets visitors. The sign initiative was created by the operations department.
“Someone on our operations team suggested the idea after hearing a lot of people asking about how many steps they get throughout the park. The operations team went and counted it out and worked with our internal sign shop team to create the sign so that people know when they walk in,” explained Cassady Watson, Director of Media for Busch Gardens Williamsburg.
To continue with the new trend of health and wellness, the park is also introducing a new Food & Wine Festival 5K. The Sip, Savor, and Sprint 5K will take place on May 4 at 7:30 a.m.
“After seeing the success of our Christmas Town Dash and with most people knowing that they aren’t allowed to run in the park during the day, we’ve kind of taken that idea in house to be able to give people an opportunity to be active in the park in the early morning hours,” Watson said.
The planned race course will take runners throughout the parking lot and into the park, running through Festa Italia, Germany, New France and Ireland. Finishers will receive a medal, a T-shirt, and access to a post-race party with a DJ and snacks.
The 5K is a partnership between Busch Gardens and Flat-Out Events, a locally run planning company.
Race registration is ongoing and includes options with or without park admission post-race. To learn more about the race or to sign up, visit runsignup.com.
