Huntsville Hospital said on Thursday that they will no longer be accepting UnitedHealthcare insurance as in-network coverage.
The hospital system says that Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield will be the first hospital to leave the United network when the contract with the insurance company ends on Oct. 15.
Highlands Medical Center in Scottsboro will leave the network on Oct. 31.
Huntsville Hospital and Madison Hospital will become out-of-network hospitals on Nov. 14.
Decatur Morgan Hospital will no longer be participating on Nov. 30.
The remaining Huntsville Hospital System hospitals will exit in 2025.
Patients who have UnitedHealthcare may continue to use Huntsville Hospital System as an out-of-network hospital.
The hospital system says patients who are a retired educator or retired State employee and have coverage with UHC Medicare, that there will be no impact on out-of-pocket expenses at Huntsville Hospital Health System.
Hospital officials say the decision also does not impact United’s VA managed care plan for veterans.
The hospital system says the decision was not made hastily and that they are continuing to pursue a resolution. According to Huntsville Hospital, UnitedHealthcare hasn’t paid the amount contractually owed from their current agreement.
The hospital urges UnitedHealthcare subscribers to contact their UnitedHealthcare representative at 1-877-298-2341.
