Pennsylvania ranks fifth in the U.S. for best health care access, according to a recent survey by Forbes Advisor.
The survey found that Pennsylvania has the sixth highest number of primary care physicians per 10,000 residents (19.78) and the sixth highest number of specialist physicians per 10,000 residents (22.01).
In addition, the survey revealed that just 55% of U.S. adults can access and afford quality health care when needed.

“Having the best health insurance can increase access to essential health care,” insurance analyst Jason Metz said in a statement. “When searching for health insurance coverage, you should consider monthly premiums, out-of-pocket costs, in-network care, preventive care and coverage of prescription medications.”
A survey by Gallup and West Health showed that accessing health care may be easier for residents in some states due to low costs, high rates of health insurance coverage and an abundance of health care providers.
Forbes Advisor compared 50 states across 14 metrics. Massachusetts ranks No. 1 and boasts the lowest percentage of residents who lack health insurance coverage (2.4%) and the highest number of primary care physicians per 10,000 residents (23.12). No. 2 Connecticut has the highest number of physician assistants per 10,000 residents (7.26) and the third highest number of specialist physicians per 10,000 residents (24.75).

Ranking No. 3 is Rhode Island, which owns the third highest number of primary care physicians per 10,000 residents (21.15) and the fourth lowest percentage of residents who lack health insurance coverage (4.2%). No. 4 Michigan has the third lowest average deductible for employees with single coverage through employer-provided health insurance ($1,614 annually) and the sixth highest number of physician assistants per 10,000 residents (6.04).
