Health Dept. reports third child death from flu in Tennessee – WSMV 4

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The flu reportedly claimed the life of another child in Tennessee last month.
In its most recent “Influenza Weekly Report,” the Tennessee Department of Health confirmed a third pediatric “influenza-associated” death between February 16 and 22, 2025.
The Health Department monitors influenza outbreaks each season, which normally begins in October.
The “Week 8″ report shows there were just four “open” flu outbreaks across the state, which includes all strains of influenza: Unsubtyped Flu A, Flu A H1N1, Flu A H3, and Flu B.
Tennessee’s “influenza-like illness” (ILI) numbers for Week 8 show Tennessee remains at the highest level reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). ILI is not a confirmed flu case but is categorized through flu-like symptoms, such as a fever, cough, or sore throat.
